TFP/TFCD Policy
What is TFP/TFCD?
Time for print (TFP) or Time for CD (TFCD) is the way for photographers, models, makeup artists, hair stylists, stylists etc, to update their folios by working on a photo shoot under the condition that they are paid in images from the photo shoot. These images are then usually used by the person for self-promotion and portfolio upgrade.
TFP sessions are usually of benefit only when all involved, photographer, model, makeup artist, hair stylist, etc… are competent and can produce professionally looking high quality photographs. Alternative is a bad set of photographs that neither of them is happy to put in their folio and show it off as their work.
Photographer can agree or call to a TFP session if he/she thinks that the model has some qualities that will fit an idea they would like to execute. If you are a model, you should ask for a TFP session when you are sure that the photographs/ideas will be beneficial to your portfolio – i.e. you need to do your homework and make sure that the photographer you will be using has produced images of quality you would like to have in your folio.
As a good practice, you can make yourself known to one of the renown makeup academies (Napoleon, TAFE, Academy of Makeup, etc) as a model who would be happy to do the makeup artist portfolio. You can also offer your services to one of hair styling schools, but be aware that if your hair is cut, you may have to do for a while assignments that can use your current hair style, or wait until your hair grows back to the size/style you have in your folio. As agencies/customers will make initial model selection based on your composite card, or shots that your agency has, they expect the model to look the same way.
I like your work, do you do TFP?
UPDATE: As of 1st of February 2010 I will not be doing any more TFP/TFCD work, except for already pre-arranged sessions.
All free/discount vouchers resulting from various competition sponsorship arrangements will be honored. If you have one of these, please contact me to arrange your session(s).
Please see my pricing for information about organising a portfolio or magazine submission session.
I will typically agree to a TFP session if I can be reasonably certain that the model is of a quality (experience) that will allow me to produce good quality images and the idea behind the proposed shoot is intriguing.
As, unfortunately, I have only very limited time that I can devote to it, so if you are convinced that working with you will be beneficial for my portfolio, as well as yours, you will certainly have to convince me as well. I will typically ask for:
- reason why you think we will benefit
- your previous experience
- a couple of photographs or a link to a web site where I can see photographs of you
- references
If you can’t provide any of this information, please re-consider the request.
What if I am NOT selected for TFP?
In some cases I will not be satisfied that you have experience, look, or age, that I will consider appropriate, and therefore I will not be able to agree to a TFP session. In that case please look up my pricing for modeling portfolio services and/or look up other photographers that offer TFP. I may be able to refer you to other photographers too. However, it is up to them to decide to work with you on a TFP basis.
What if I am selected for TFP?
Great
, we’ll move on to the next step.
